Dr. D. Bagchi
I was born and raised in Karimpur, a small village in West Bengal, India. My academic journey in chemistry began with a B.Sc. (Honours) from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, Belur Math, followed by an M.Sc. from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. A deep-rooted curiosity and passion for science—nurtured since childhood—have consistently driven my pursuit of knowledge and innovation.
Motivated by a desire to contribute to sustainable technologies, I pursued a Ph.D. in Chemistry with a specialization in materials chemistry. My research focuses on the rational design of advanced functional materials for applications that support environmental and energy sustainability.
Currently, I am engaged in the development of catalyst materials and mechanistic studies for a range of electrochemical energy conversion and storage systems, including:
-
Electrochemical water splitting for green hydrogen production,
-
Fuel cell technologies,
-
Upgrading of biomass- and plastic-derived organic compounds to value-added chemicals,
-
Electrochemical conversion of COâ‚‚ to fuels and chemicals.
My broader goal is to understand structure–activity relationships and uncover fundamental insights into catalytic processes using advanced in situ/operando spectroscopic techniques. Through this, I aim to contribute meaningfully to the global transition toward clean and circular energy solutions.
